The character

Fripp Island is the last of the Sea Islands — a private, gated oceanfront resort on a barrier island, the outermost of Beaufort's Sea Islands, reached by its own security-gated bridge out past Hunting Island State Park. Roughly three miles of Atlantic beach wrap its edge, and the drive in, over marsh and maritime forest, sets the tone: this is a quiet, nature-first island, not a busy resort strip.

It's known as much for its wildlife as its amenities — resident deer and shorebirds roam freely through the community, and much of the island reads as preserve. Inside the gate sit two golf courses, Ocean Point Golf Links and Ocean Creek Golf Course, a racquet complex, oceanfront pools, a Beach Club and Cabana Club, and a marina on the inland waterway with community docks and dining. Hollywood footnote: scenes from Forrest Gump — the Vietnam and shrimping sequences — and Pat Conroy's The Prince of Tides were filmed on and around the island. It's a strong second-home and vacation-rental island — the resort runs a rental program and many owners rent — which is exactly what makes a certified, move-in-ready home here so easy to read.

Life here

  • Two golf courses — Ocean Point Golf Links (reopened in 2024 after a Dye Designs renovation) and Ocean Creek Golf Course
  • Roughly three miles of private Atlantic beach along the barrier island
  • The Beach Club and Cabana Club, oceanfront pools, and a racquet/tennis complex
  • A marina on the inland waterway with community docks — boating, fishing, and nature cruises
  • Abundant island wildlife — resident deer and shorebirds roam the community — plus dining inside the gates

Best for

  • Beach-and-golf buyers who want a private oceanfront island over a resort strip
  • Second-home and rental-investment owners — the resort runs a rental program and many owners rent
